10 Watt UV Tube
Flymatic fly killers all use ultraviolet tubes to attract flying insects into the unit. They are then either zapped dead on a high voltage killing grid or trapped on an adhesive glue board.
UV tubes attract flying insects by emitting a wavelength of light attractive to flies. The most effective wavelength range for effective flying insect protection is recognised as peaking at 365mm.
How Often Should UV Lamps Be Changed & Why?
We recommend that UV Lamps are changed every 12 months to ensure maximum efficiency. The levels of UV produced by fluorescent Lamps deteriorates rapidly throughout the life of the tube. Whilst the tube will continue to glow blue indefinitely, after approximately 8,000 hours the amount of useful UV (which humans cannot see) drops to a level where it is no longer attractive to flying insects. As a result, UV Lamps must be replaced annually to ensure they remain effective in producing useful levels of UV. It is best to replace the tube just before the peak insect season, which is March/April.
